GeoWeb 2007 - Creating Web 2.0 Applications on an Open Source Platform

Fusion_exampleNiel Niemiec, Paul Spencer, Dave McIlhagga and I delivered a workshop at Geoweb 2007 in Vancouver that introduced participants to developing Web 2.0 applications on an open source platform including MapGuide Open Source, FDO, and Fusion.  Fusion is an SDK developed by DMSolutions Group who is contributing Fusion to the MapGuide Open Source project on OSGEO .  Fusion represents the most significant contribution to the MapGuide Open Source project since its inception.  Fusion provides tools  and templates for developing web mapping applications with MapGuide Open Source and Autodesk MapGuide Enterprise and is built primarily in JavaScript.  The objective of Fusion is to enable web designers and application developers to build Web 2.0 applications including spatial edit quickly and easily. Designers can take advantage of a growing suite of widgets and templates in this modular system to improve site aesthetics without having to write a lot of code.    The goal is to provide full integration of Fusion into the MapGuide Open Source project in time for the 1.3 release this fall.
