According to NetworkWorld, several government agencies announced the timeline for broadband stimulus funding. The objective is to get $7.2 billion out the door by October 2010. NTIA sais that there will be three rounds, the first this spring, the second in the fall, and the last in the spring of 2010. The idea is to get money out the door immediately for "shovel-ready broadband projects", but save some money for projects still in the planning stage.
The federal government has allocated $7.2 billion for broadband infrastructure in the economic stimulus package. $4.7 billion has been allocated to the NTIA for projects that will "build out broadband infrastructure in unserved or underserved areas, to deliver broadband capabilities for public safety agencies and to stimulate broadband demand through training and education."
The other $2.5 billion has been allocated to the Department of Agriculture to "make loans to companies building out broadband infrastructure in rural areas."
