The Government of Australia has endorsed its renewable energy laws that set a target of supplying 20% of Australia’s energy needs from renewable sources by 2020. The legislation will come into effect January 2011.
Australia’s electricity generation capacity increased by 4.7% in 2008-09, primarily due to new gas-fired generation, but also to wind. Australia’s wind-powered energy capacity increased by almost almost 666 MW (63%) in 2008-09.
