Project Vasari is a simplified design tool for creating conceptual building designs with integrated analysis for energy and carbon. Vasari is for early concept work. One of its big differentiators from products like Sketchup is that it is intended to fit into a building information modeling (BIM) workflow. Vasari uses the same .rvt and .rfa file format as Revit so that you can start a .rvt or .rfa concept design in Vasari and later open it in Revit for further work. Vasari also supports both geometric and parametric modeling and it allows you to analyze your design for sustainability using integrated energy and carbon modeling and analysis.
The Vasari technology preview is now available as a free download for trial on Autodesk Labs. The technology preview will be available until May 15, 2011. Vasari is intended to be easy to learn and there is a series of introductory videos designed to help you get started.
