The cooling problems at Unit 3 are serious enough that, according to the BBC, they are trying to pump sea water through it, as they did with Unit 1. Apparently both plutonium and uranium (MOX) are used as fuel by Unit 3, a BWR/4 Mark 1 type reactor that first came on line in 1976, making it potentially a higher risk. Japanese authorities have announced that there is a risk of a second explosion, but said that, as with Unit 1, it is expected that the containment vessel could withstand the impact and the nuclear reactor itself would not be damaged.
reactor 3 is the real nasty one,
MOX fuel with plutonium,
very carcinogenic
