Monday, March 28, 2011 05:48 JST (16:48 Sunday March 27 ET) NHK reports that high radioactivity levels which have been detected in water in Units 1,2,3 turbine buildings may hinder further efforts to restore power and cooling systems. TEPCO says that on Sunday that it recorded more than one sievert per hour (1000 mSv/h) in water in the turbine room of Unit 2. High radiation readings 10,000 times the normal radioactive density had been detected in the turbine buildings of the Units 1 and 3 as well.
Spent Fuel Pools
TEPCO said early Monday morning that the spent fuel pools in Unit 2 and Unit 4 appear to be filled with water, with the rods fully submerged. The temperature of the spent fuel pool at Unit 2 was reported to be 56 °C at 5:50 PM on Sunday.
