According to the IAEA, the Japanese government has extended the evacuation zone around the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, where an explosion has occurred, to a 20-kilometre radius.
At the Fukushima Daini nuclear power plant, where there are also reactor cooling problems, the evacuation zone has been extended to a 10-kilometre radius.
The government also says it is making preparations to distribute iodine to residents in the area of both the plants.
