The IAEA has been informed by Japanese authorities that radioactivity levels at the Onagawa nuclear power plant have returned to normal background levels. A low state of emergency (Article 10) was declared at the plant after an increased level of radioactivity was recorded at the site boundary.
No emission of radioactivity has occurred from any of the three units at Onagawa. The current assumption is that the increased level may have been due to a release of radioactive material from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
