Aneesh Chopra, CTO of the US, in this morning's keynote at the Gridweek conference in Washington DC, challenged the electric utility industry to do what the government iniitated at Veterans' Affairs and what was taken up by the private health industry - "blue button" access to personal health records. In the US with the "click of a blue button", veterans can download their personal health records. Private health companies like Aetna are offering the same "blue button" access to personal health records.
Aneesh said he lives in a part of Virginia that has smart meters, but he has seen "nada" in terms of access to any information about his personal electricity usage. So as part of the smart grid initiative he would like the electric utility industry to implement a "green button" program, so that every consumer with a "click of a green button" can access and download personal electric usage data.
