Interesting blog post by Monica Schnitger that points out that today represents a major milestone in the incredible journey that has transformed Hexagon from a Swedish contract metals manufacturer and producer of valves, antennas and pressure vessels whom few in the geospatial world had ever heard of in 2000 to a global design, measurement and visualization technology company with € 2.4 billion in revenue and 14,000 employees. Today, Hexagon announced it has sold SwePart, the last piece of the “old” Hexagon. SwePart manufactures custom gearbox housings and transmission parts for the automotive and other industries.
The new Hexagon has a lot of geospatial capabilities having bought Leica Geosystems in 2005, Intergraph in 2010 and MicroSurvey in 2012. Hexagon offers solutions that integrate geospatlal and industrial technologies for vertical markets including infrastructure and construction.
