The U.S. National Park Service (NPS) has issued a policy memorandum that prohibits launching, landing, or operating unmanned aircraft (UAVs) on lands and waters administered by the National Park Service. The NPS is prohibiting UAVs until it can determine "the most appropriate policy that will protect park resources and provide all visitors with a rich experience.”
In the most recently reported incident involving a UAV in a national park it is alleged that a UAV crashed into the Grand Prismatic Spring, the largest hot spring at Yellowstone National Park.
